Climate

To address the existential threat of climate change, GCA is engaged in the following activities: 

  • active participants in the Town of Groton Resilience & Sustainability (R&S) Task Force

  • raising awareness about sea level rise 

  • promoting the 30 x 30 open space goal to the Town (30% of Groton land protected as open space by 2030)

  • actively supporting Town acquisition of watershed and forested land to increase carbon uptake

  • reducing fossil fuel consumption through limiting single-use plastics

  • reducing the carbon footprint of our waste by encouraging home and industrial-scale composting

  • encouraging energy efficiency in Town-owned buildings and the use of hybrid/electric vehicles

  • advocating for redevelopment and transit-oriented development (Shoreline East project)

  • supporting pollinator pathway initiatives to benefit native flora and fauna
