Redevelopment

GCA supports redevelopment and discourages suburban sprawl to prevent continued clearcutting of Groton's forested areas.

  • mixed-use development- integrated development that incorporates two or more types of land uses (e.g., housing, offices, retail, entertainment, institutions, services, restaurants). Mixed-use development can help Groton better respond to growing demand for walkable, vibrant communities with convenient transit linkages, proximity to jobs, and access to nearby public services and spaces and activity-oriented destinations.

  • transit oriented development- TOD, or transit-oriented development, means planning to bring people, activities, buildings, and public space together, with easy walking and cycling connection between them and near-excellent transit service to the rest of the city.

  • master planning vs. haphazard development

  • redeveloping elementary school properties, while preserving forested areas on those properties
